Hamlet,
Prince of Denmark
“To be or not to be, that is the question…”
Directed by Vanessa Keyser
So
begins the most famous speech in Hamlet, Shakespeare’s tragic
masterpiece—the story of a young prince who struggles to avenge
the murder of his father, betrayal by his mother, the suicide of his
girlfriend, and his own seeming madness. Ambition, revenge, loyalty,
and passion mix together with unforeseen consequences and deadly results.
Considered to be one of the greatest plays in all dramatic literature,
Hamlet explores questions of identity, consciousness, duty, and honor
that are just as thorny today as they were four centuries ago.

Behind
the Scenes: Hamlet
Doctor Faustus
by Christopher Marlowe
“ Hell hath no limits, nor is circumscribed in one place. Where we are
is hell.”
- Mephistopheles
directed by Joseph Martinez III
Faustus, a vain mortal, trades his immortal soul
to the princes of Hell if Mephistopheles will be his servant for 24
years. Although Faustus
has access to the answers of the questions about the universe, he spends
his time having his basic desires fulfilled. On the surface, Marlowe’s
tragedy can be viewed as a morality play, that the “reward of sin
is death.” A bit deeper, though, we see a man who is punished for
exercising his free will to know what more there is to life. The question
for the audience is whether they side with Heaven’s judgment or
if they would seize the opportunity by spending their time more wisely.
