FESTIVAL EXPANDS TO CHAMIZAL NATIONAL MEMORIAL IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

elcome to the Shakespeare on-the-Rocks Festival website. As we enter our 22nd season, we are excited about our collaboration with the National Park Service to perform at the theater at the Chamizal National Memorial from August 20-29 as part of their longstanding Shakespeare in the Park program. In September, we will continue our residence at the Ysleta Fine Arts Amphitheater for two weekends, from September 17-26.

This season we are reprising our productions of the romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, the boisterous comedy Twelfth Night, and adding a new production of the drama Othello. For 2010, the festival has been scaled back to three shows, one of which is a new production, all performed in repertory from the outset. We will again share the final weekend with the Ysleta school district’s annual Renaissance Fair, September 24-26.

Shakespeare on-the-Rocks is special because our productions are in two very different venues: the handsome indoor setting at the Chamizal and the intimate outdoor Ysleta Fine Arts Amphitheater. We feature scripts edited for modern audiences, integrate music and dance into the plays, and feature our community’s best local talent, both young and young at heart.

We hope to see you often at both of our homes.
